Gabe Saporta

The groom and bride-to-be...

The groom and bride-to-be…

Gabe has been a person I like for some time now, but most recently, I like him (love him, actually) because he asked one of my best friends, Erin Fetherston to marry him… I’m sooooo happy for you two!

It has been amazing to watch these two over the past couple of years. Erin has always been a wonderful, ethereal friend of mine, but since she’s been with Gabe, she’s blossomed even more into herself – in every way – and I feel like a lot has to do with Gabe. That is what my husband did for me and precisely what the person you choose to marry should do: bring out your best, guide you, push you and love you into the very finest person you can be. And it has to go both ways – Erin does exactly the same for him.

You two are perfect together. I can’t even imagine how perfect those little Fetherston-Saporta amazonian babies will be! No pressure… but my kids need some little friends! ASAP!

The chic couple.

The chic couple.

Of course Erin is not the only reason I like Gabe. He is incredibly talented and intelligent (and handsome). I will admit I don’t know a huge amount about music, but I definitely know the Top 20, so I knew his band, Cobra Starship. And so does everyone else on the planet: I live in France and they regularly play it on the radio here, which makes my kids go berserk in their car seats.

I remember, just after You Make Me Feel So… came out and I was on a playground in Soho and the mom pushing her kid on the swing next to me starts singing “La La La La La,” and looked at me, apologized and said she couldn’t get it out of her head. I told her that was a good thing. Even on elevators… in the grocery store… at the gas station… the airport… Gabe’s voice was everywhere. And it always made me burst into a gigantic smile, especially when my kids would hear it too and start jamming their hips left and right, throw their hands in the air and start baby-breakdancing. No matter where we were, they’d yell “Mama! Mama! It’s Gabriel! Gabriel is singing this song!!! Did you know that?! Woooooooo!” And then when Sabi would come on, my son would say, “Erin! Erin is singing now! Woooo Hoooooo!” I seriously thought he’d hurt himself. Or someone else.

I guess that was a sign of what was so come…. and we can’t wait for May to come! Our kids are obsessed with “the wedding.” The day after I told him he was going to his first wedding, my son started cutting paper confetti and putting it into the envelopes we have left over from our wedding invitations. He did not consult me on any of this – just went into the stationary drawer and happened to pick those envelopes… and cut confetti our of his father’s business documents. I figured it was somehow good luck, so I let him run with it.

Gabe also handled the whole engagement situation like a modern gentleman: he asked Erin’s parents for her hand, got Erin involved with Lorraine Schwartz and the ring design (smart man), and then surprised her with a ring, not once, but twice (the first time was on Christmas, when he pulled out a ring box after she had opened all of her presents. It was an amethyst, not the diamond. Then he surprised her, later, one morning with the real thing while on holiday in Barbados).

The ring!!!!

The ring!!!!

I love how the whole thing has played out. And I’m not going to lie, the ring is a beauty… Just like the girl who now wears it.

Woooooo Hoooooo!

P.S. – Martha Stewart’s Weddings magazine will be helping to mastermind their ceremony/reception in a secret, sandy location… Erin + Martha = Perfection
